A Realtor wants to show the house. Now What?!

6 Aug

A Realtor left a voicemail that they want to show the house in 45 minutes! Everyone to their place, you are about to have a showing appointment.

Funny how buyer showing appointments seem to happen and worst possible moments. So, how do you handle this when time is not on your side? Let’s take a look at 10 ways to prepare for a showing:

#1 Dust the furniture. A quick wipe down of TVs, computers and furniture will make a world of different, and help your home to shine.

#2 Make the beds. All the beds in the home should be made. If the spreads are faded, consider updating them.
#3 Clean off the counters. All the counters should be clean and clear. Remove clutter, unfinished food, knick knacks should be stored.

#4 Garbage cans emptied. All garbage cans and recycling bins should be emptied. It’s also a good idea to disinfect this bins weekly to help eliminate odors.

#5 Mini mop ups. Sweep and mop the kitchen, bathroom and entry ways.  Act as if your mother-in law was paying a visit.

#6 Shed some light. Turn on all the lights and open up the blinds/ window coverings.  Be sure the windows are clean.

#7 Load the washer and dryer. Any dirty clothing should be placed in the laundry. Don’t start the cycle if it will run during the showing.

#8 Load the dishwasher.  I’m sure the meal you made was tasty, but I don’t want to see it or smell it while I’m viewing your home.

#9 Give the carpets a quick spruce! Have carpets? Get them a quick pick me up. Focus on the living room and entryways.

#10 Pick up every room. Give every room a final walk through and consider the potential buyer. If it isn’t pleasing, remove/ hid it.

Just remember; these tactics and others are used to bring top dollar to your property. If you can’t do everything, do what you can (i.e. garbage and dishes). And if you have others in your household, make sure they pitch in. No one said you have to do it all.
